We all know how much electricity and gas have become a hot topic in the recent period, given also the sharp increase in bills caused by rising gas prices, considering that Italy imports about 90% of its gas. When we talk about this topic, we also often hear about renewable energy. But what exactly are they? And why should be aware of their existence?

Renewable energy sources are those forms of energy that come from nature, for example, solar, wind, thermal, biomass, hydroelectric or marine energy. These types of energy have the power to regenerate, do not deplete and do not pollute. Therefore, they have a very low environmental impact, unlike nonrenewable energy, such as fossil and nuclear fuels. To understand it better, the electric car is a very good example that we can encounter on a daily basis; it does not consume gasoline but electricity, it is rechargeable and has a low environmental impact.

The government has come very close to this topic, especially in Pniec, or the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan. Here they set national goals as sustainability, renewables and CO2 emissions until 2030. So what has been decided?

In this document there is really a big news that concerns renewable energy, in fact, it has been decided that by 2030 at least 30% of final consumption will have to come from renewables. In 2020 we reached 20%. In addition, the government will increase the introduction of electric cars to 6 million vehicles. Another important point is definitely the 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, for which energy use is 77% responsible, for the transportation sector.

What are your thoughts on this? Were you already aware of renewable energy?
