She’s still a child, but the role of being a background player has already felt restrictive for her: North West, born in 2013, is ready to take the stage, this time on her own. “I’m working on an album. It’s called Elementary School Dropout“, announced the eldest daughter of Ye, the pseudonym of Kanye Omari West, marking her first solo project after accompanying her father at the last listening party, held in Phoenix, Arizona.

A brief statement, immediately followed by the cheers of the audience who seemed thrilled by this unexpected debut. On the other hand, it’s not the first time North West has ventured into musical performances. Just a few weeks ago, she secured the 30th spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, thanks to her appearance in “Talking”, a track by Ye released on the latest album, Voltures 1, in collaboration with singer-songwriter Ty Dolla $ign.

Going back a little further in time, one discovers one of the youngest’s first forays into hip hop. In March 2020, at just six years old, she performed a short rap session at Kanye’s Yeezy fashion show in Paris. It’s to her father, who has always encouraged her innate musical inclination, that North West dedicates her first album. The title is indeed a clear homage to Ye’s debut album, The College Dropout.
