While in the U.S. the right to abortion is being taken away, in Spain they are discussing about menstrual leave. Let’s see more in depth what it really is.

Spain has approved the draft law on menstrual leave, announced by the Minister Irene Montero and approved by the Spanish Council of Ministers. This leave would give us women the opportunity to stay home from work for at least three days per month, obviously all certified by a competent doctor.

In addition, there were also discussions of topics such as: procuring pads for schools, the removal of taxes from pads and abortion expenses covered by the health system. Spain you’re doing a great job!

But back to us, very often, period pains are minimised or belittled, forcing us to work even in situations of malaise. Nowadays, unfortunately, menstruation are still a taboo that causes misinformation or even non information, both among women but especially among men, when in reality period is a natural and physiological event for a fertile woman. No scandal, it’s nature!

Do you know what dysmenorrhea is? Dysmenorrhea are a set of symptoms including, strong abdominal and uterine pain, nausea, vomiting, cramps, fever, diarrhea… caused by menstruation!

But most of all, do you know how many women suffer from it? Only in Italy, women who suffer of painful menstruation range from 60% to 90% causing, not only absences, but also little productivity, both during work or school.

It is absolutely wrong to normalise working when you do not feel well. Do you work when you have a fever? No! Then why are we forced to work when we have pains caused by period?

If this law enters into force it will be a great step forward also because in the East (Japan, Indonesia, South Korea, Taiwan) it has already been present for decades!

What do you think?
