From azure to aquamarine, navy to ultramarine, all shades of blue are making a comeback as protagonists in the most beloved makeup looks by Gen Z and Millennials. Confirmation comes from a Pinterest report that predicted the trend after analyzing searches conducted in the last months of the previous year. According to the data, among the most typed terms on the web, there is a 65 percent increase for “aesthetic blue eyeshadow,” a 70 percent increase for “party sky blue makeup,” an 85 percent increase for “teenage blue makeup,” and a 100 percent increase for “aquamarine makeup.”

The trend is certainly not new but had long remained in the background, overshadowed by the alternating intense smokey eyes and nude-toned makeup. In recent times, however, it has reappeared in the makeup of numerous trendsetters such as Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Iris Law, and Dua Lipa. Fueled by a widespread inclination to revive fashion and aesthetics from past decades, where blue eyeshadows often played pivotal roles. Think of the beloved blue cut creases by Twiggy in the ’60s, the color block makeup in vogue in the ’80s, and the frosted shades, with an “icy” effect, showcased on the runway by Kate Moss in the ’90s.
