The news came through an exclusive to Women’s Wear Daily magazine: Simon Porte Jacquemus has chosen Capri to celebrate the 15th anniversary of his eponymous brand. And to do so, he couldn’t help but stage a runway show. Where? In one of the most picturesque places on the island in the Gulf of Naples, namely Casa Malaparte. And if the name doesn’t evoke any images for you, just know that it’s the same location where Jean-Luc Godard’s film “Le Mépris”, translated as “Contempt,” was shot—one of the most significant directors of the Nouvelle Vague.
According to WWD, it seems that behind the choice of the location, there is a tribute to this famous film, one of the favorites of the French designer. On the other hand, Jacquemus has accustomed us for some time to settings rich in charm and history. Just think that the Spring/Summer 2024 collection, named Les Sculptures, took place at the Fondation Maeght, an important modern and contemporary art exhibition center located in Saint-Paul-de-Vence (southern France).
But the curiosity doesn’t end here. Between Casa Malaparte and fashion, there is a deep connection dating back to 1997 when Karl Lagerfeld was so fascinated by the house that he wanted to immortalize it in a series of Polaroids, published the following year in a book by Steidl. These same Polaroids were reused by Jacquemus to adorn a jacket worn by Bad Bunny at the Met Gala 2023, dedicated to the “Kaiser of fashion.” And then there was a Louis Vuitton campaign in 2015, as well as those of Yves Saint Laurent in 2018 and 2019: all set in the majestic villa located at Capo Masullo, precisely on a rocky promontory so small that it gives the impression that the house rises directly from the sea.
At this point, all that’s left is to open your smartphone calendar and mark the date of the unmissable event: June 10. As always, the show will be open to a select few, but nothing excludes the possibility that, as in past seasons, it may be broadcast live on Jacquemus’ official channels.
