The Air Swipe Bag launched by Parisian brand Coperni is a revolutionary product. A bag made of 99% of air and 1% of glass – NASA’s silica aerogel. This is a nanomaterial, the lightest on Earth.
Coperni unveiled the Air Swipe Bag during its Fall Winter 2024-25 fashion show at Paris Fashion Week, which ended recently. The maison is not new to hi-tech fashion and dialogue with Space. Bella Hadid’s spray dress and the catwalk with dog drones made history. As well as the Mini Meteorite Swipe Bag, another space bag the brand launched last year. A super limited edition made with a real meteorite. The design was pretty much the same: a mini handbag with a porthole, an icon of the brand.
To present the Air Swipe Bag Coperni created a sci-fi-style set in a film studio outside Paris. At the center of the location a huge white rectangle evoked the dark monolith of Stanley Kubrik’s iconic film, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Models walked the runway wearing silver dresses, transparent suits and necklines resembling planetary rings.
The Air Swipe Bag is by now the biggest object ever made with silica aerogel. Coperni developed it with researcher Ioannis Michaloudis. Professor of visual arts, he worked with NASA in project Stardust. At that time, the nanomaterial had to capture powder particles. At the Paris Fashion Week 2024, it revolutionized fashion with the disruptive style characterising Coperni.
