Dior Men honors Nureyev and the ballet world in its fall-winter 2024-25 collection. The French maison presented its new men’s line at the Paris Fashion Week. This is Dior’s first male haute couture, signed by British designer Kim Jones.
On the notes of Romeo and Juliet by Sergei Prokofiev, models walked down the catwalk wearing looks inspired to Rudolf Nureyev. Born in the USSR in 1938 and dead in France in 1993, he was a great dancer and choreographer. He performed on the most famous stages in the world. He first broke the boundaries between classical and modern dance. And he always openly declared his homosexuality.
Dior Men honors Nureyev and breaks down the boundaries between haute couture and ready to wear. But also, those between masculine and feminine. Ballet icons, such as ballerinas and tights, walk down the catwalk. Together with colorful knee-highs, headbands, slits and necklines.
In a scenography that evokes a theater, models wear pieces inspired by Nureyev’s outfits. Uchikake kimonos, beanies, turtleneck sweaters.
Kim Jones, whose uncle was a photographer and friend of the dancer, also draws inspiration from the period of his career peak. Straight from the 60s and 70s come flared shorts and ribbed knitwear.
Genderless triumphs with dance steps.
