For New York fashion week spring summer 2024 season, Collina Strada decided to rely on artificial intelligence. At a farmhouse on the Brooklyn waterfront, we saw a completely new style on the runway: shapes and fabrics reminiscent of nature and animals, psychedelic prints, asymmetries, frills, draping patches, and various coverings.

Hillary Taymour and the creative team explain that they spent several weeks uploading the brand’s most significant looks on the AI platform. Once the various photos were analysed, the system proposed four designs using the inspirations received. The real challenge was to reproduce these outfits created by a machine and not by a creative mind.

This new modus operandi is certainly revolutionary but the public did not seem to particularly appreciate it: “Why can’t we use AI to do the non-creative work, freeing us up to be truly creative and able to enjoy that process?!”, “Death to creativity as we know it.” “Safe to say Fashion designers’ jobs are safe for the moment.”
