The last book I bought was Circe by Madeline Miller, which, by the way, I recommend. The writer tells the story of the sorceress Circe, known as the lover of Odysseus and as the nymph who has the habit of punishing men by turning them into pigs. (how to blame her…just kidding guys!)
Usually, we are used to read the Odyssey at school, so we study the character of Circe narrated from the point of view of the writer Homer. Miller’s book is very striking because the story is narrated from the point of view of the protagonist Circe, who is denigrated and excluded both by her family and her friends, considered not up to being a deity and belittled by her powers, defined useless.
Circe is the daughter of Elios, the god of Sun and the nymph Perseide, two characters of a certain importance in the Olympus world, for this reason, the expectations of their daughter are very high on everyone’s part. The young nymph, however, has a complicated character and likes to be independent, above all, she prefers the company of mortals to that of gods.
She is a misunderstood character and this misunderstanding will lead her to be punished by the most powerful gods. In fact, she will end up exiled in the island of Ea, where, contrary to expectations, in her solitude, she will increase her powers and learn to appreciate her island but… No more spoilers now!
