We all know how tough the world of work can be, especially for us young people, Millennials and Generation Z, and especially if we are on our first work experience and still not chewing well on everything related to the working world. This is also evident from Italy’s NEET rate, which unfortunately is the highest among all 27 European Union countries.

What is NEET? The acronym stands for Not in Education, Employment or Training. Thus, it indicates a person, aged 15 to 29, who is not in employment and not enrolled in education or training. Unfortunately, many of us have discontinued the studies, many have been dissatisfied with the job found, and still others simply feel lost. Do you know how many teenagers are in this situation? Around 3 million, which is equivalent to say 1 in 4 young people.

But be careful… The most worrying factor is not so much the number but the fact that this percentage doesn’t seem to go down. In fact, the rate has remained unchanged at 13% throughout the last decade.

But things may be getting better… The government has proposed a bonus with the aim of bringing this rate down. Let’s see how it works. Private companies that hire with stable or apprenticeship contracts NEETs under 30 registered in the Youth Employment Initiative program will be eligible for an incentive. This bonus provides that 60% of the gross monthly salary taxable for social security purposes will be paid by the state for a period of one year. It will apply to hires starting from June 1st until the end of the year. The resources made available are 160 million euros, in the hope that this initiative will bring young people who feel they are struggling closer together.

In your opinion, which regions will most take advantage of this bonus? For now, predictions point to Lombardy, Campania and Veneto.

Will it work?
