How much do we like to be able to immerse ourselves for a few hours in someone else’s life, especially a famous one?
By now, Netflix is teeming with biographical documentaries chronicling the lives or highlights of public figures such as “Arnold,” “Merkel,” “Senna,” “Diego Maradona,” “Miss Americana: Taylor Swift,” “Britney v. Spears,” and many others. October 8th saw the release of “Beckham”, which narrates the life of one of the world’s best-known soccer players (and not only).
Born in 1975, David Beckham grew up in London with his parents, his mother a hairdresser and his father a kitchen installer. From an early age he became passionate about soccer : “I never really did well at school. All I ever wanted to do was play football.” In fact, in 1991 he signed for Manchester United as a “trainee” and that was just the beginning… A few years later he made his UEFA Champions League debut, scoring a goal and taking home the win against Galatasaray to become an established midfielder. But it’s not all sunshine and roses, including injuries, misunderstandings, red cards and more… But as David says, “I don’t give up easy.”
