“Work, hold on, but don’t forget that when you go home you have a cat, a dog, a child, a mother, a grandmother… or a companion. Don’t forget that. Because, going forward, you’ll find out that you need people by your side.”
This is a small part of Giorgio Armani’s speech to students during the occasion of his last honorary degree at the Catholic University of Piacenza, his hometown. Work is important and certainly can give a lot of satisfaction but it is even more important not to neglect what really matters, our affections, ourselves, our hobbies and our passions.
Throughout his long career, the entrepreneur told of finding himself absorbed by work and commitments, neglecting himself, most of all. “This degree has forced me to remember the path I’ve been on so far, very challenging, forgetting myself. And this is very serious.”
