Dupes… Yes or no?

Here’s yet another viral trend on Tik Tok. The dupes. Many of you will already know what I’m talking about and probably have already purchased one of them. For the few who don’t know this word, I’ll explain it to you. We all know that ‘dupe’ means deception. But in this case dupes are copies, imitations or items similar to other products, usually we are talking about luxury items that can be make up products, shoes, accessories or clothing.

Just think that the hashtag #dupe has reached more than 1.5 billion views on Tik Tok and we can find everything and more… The most popular items are: the it bag Le Cagole by Balenciaga, the super tight  ini dressed by Poster Girls, the foundation of NARS, the lip gloss of Dior, the perfume Chance by Chanel, the perfume Hypnotic Poison by Dior and many others…

But have you ever thought what consequences the dupe culture could have? Unfortunately there are not positive consequences… Often some tik tokers sponsor fake articles, going to fuel the counterfeiting market that we obviously disapprove 100%. Others, instead, propose alternatives related to fast fashion, which now we all know how harmful can be for the planet.

It is perfectly permissible to look for products similar to what we crave but may not be able to afford. Also because spoiler: not everyone can spend 1,500 euros for a bag or a pair of shoes. (Unfortunately, I would add)

We must be careful not to abuse the dupe culture and not fall into the trap of fast fashion that drives us to buy compulsively, enticing us with super low cost prices and making us believe that we are taking a great deal. We all know that we are going to wear that dress just once, and we all know that plastic bag is probably gonna break in a few weeks.

Remember, quality not quantity!
