Also Safilo takes part of the Fashion Pact. What is this news?
The Fashion Pact is an initiative born in 2019 and promoted by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron. It’s a coalition of companies in the fashion industry, from raw material suppliers to final brands, who come together to achieve three final goals: stop global warming, protect the oceans and restore biodiversity. The inspiration of these objectives came from the 17 points established by the United Nations, in particular points 13 (Climate Action), 14 (Life below Water) and 15 (Life on Land).
We all know how sustainability has become a hot topic in recent years. What we may not know is that it can be really complicated for a single company to inform and make the right choices to build a greener future. Often there are the right intentions and good will but there is a lack of effective means to become more sustainable. Only by joining forces it will be possible to achieve these goals more easily and effectively. The more, the better!
The brands that took part in this new project are varied, from the most luxurious to fast fashion. When it comes to sustainability, you have to include everyone! In total, there are more than 60: Chanel, Chloe, Herno, Armani Group, Ermengildo Zegna, Burberry, Zimmermann, Hermes, Kering, H&M, Inditex, Puma, Calzedonia Group, Mango and many more…
The Fashion Pact has set goals to reach within 2025 and all the companies that have joined will have to commit to achieve them.
Let’s see the first advances that have already been achieved in the last period: 40-45% of the energy consumed comes from renewable energy, reduction of plastic packaging (especially disposable ones) and replacement of sustainable packaging. This was only the outcome of the first year, we will see the next!
