In the last article we talked about the Cannes Film Festival and some guests including Khaby Lame.
Many of you will surely wonder what a tik toker is doing at the 75th edition of the world’s best-known film festival. In this period, we need to get used to see new faces and especially new digital talents: youtubers, tik tok stars, instagrammers, influencers and so on. Personally, it’s nice to see new young faces attending events of a certain importance!
Anyway, let’s get back to our Khaby. For those of you who don’t know, you probably don’t know the world of Tik Tok well. Khaby Lame is the second most followed tik toker in the world, (with the beauty of 140 million followers) after Charlie D’Amelio who holds the gold medal.
After doing several jobs including bricklayer and waiter to support his family and after losing his factory job due to the Covid19 emergency, the young Khaby decides to upload some videos on Tik Tok, probably bored by the quarantine period. And here he is today! One of the most followed people in the world, only at the age of 22. His videos are purely comic, famous for the move of the ‘shrug’, become viral in no time.
To not forget his origins, the tik toker showed up at the Cannes Film Festival with a super technological gilet with micro screens on the back that broadcast his most comical videos.
In addition, Khaby was not only invited as a guest but was also chosen as a member of the jury to evaluate the short films of #TikTokShortFilm, a new competition launched by Tik Tok in collaboration with the Cannes Film Festival to find emerging filmmakers around the world. We have three different categories: Grand Prix, Best Editing and Best Script.
Khaby reveals us “My dream is cinema. Study, because it takes study first and then I will aim to win the infamous Oscar” with lots of laughter.
