This week Elisabetta Franchi was interviewed by Il Foglio della Moda at the event Donne e Moda, Barometro 2022. During the event they analysed the second edition of the Women and Fashion Observatory that shows how the world of work in the fashion industry has changed for us women. Everyone hoped for a positive outcome… Well, that’s not what happened…
Some statements by Elisabetta Franchi caused raised eyebrows.
“When you put a woman in an important charge, if it’s important, you cannot afford not to see her arriving for two years because that position stays empty. (…) If it’s empty, it’s a problem. Also I, as an entrepreneur, manager of my company, have often relied on men because…” without ending the sentence. Well we understood, didn’t we?
“In the meantime, I must make a premise, I chose women, but they are anta.” (That is, over 40 years, probably already mothers or wives)
Is it still acceptable that in 2022 a woman should be discriminated because she desires to have both a working career and a family? Well, that’s embarrassing!
The thing that makes me shudder is that these words were pronounced by a woman, founder of a brand and mother of two children. Absurd, isn’t it? For this reason, she should be the first to support and help women that want to create both a career and a family, and instead… How sad and how angry!
So, if Elisabetta Franchi succeeded, why can’t we?
So, combining life with work is a sin?
So, do we have to choose between work and family?
The real problem is that this thought is too common and it is easily percepibile, for example, during certain interviews, when the interviewer comes up with the classic question: “Well, miss, one last question, are you engaged/married? Would you like to have a family?”
We are tired.
