For the Oscars night Emily Ratajkovski sported La Mariée Sculpture by Jacquemus. The model has been a guest of the Vanity Fair Oscar party for several years and for the 2024 edition wore an authentic sculpture. A surrealist long white dress crafted in clay from the French maison’s spring-summer 2024 collection. A super sexy combination of fashion and contemporary art.
The dress was first presented in January as part of Les Sculptures collection. For the occasion, the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, near Nice, turned into a catwalk. Jacquemus couldn’t have found a better venue for his fashion sculptures. Opened in the Sixties as the first private foundation in Europe, the Maeght hosts a contemporary art collection. It ranges from Chagall to Mirò, up to Italian artist Alberto Giacometti.
Designer Simone Porte Jacquemus took inspiration right by Giacometti’s bronzes for his “sculptures”. One of them is La Mariée Sculpture flaunted by Emily Ratajkovski at the Oscars. Still, the first to wear it, at the Maeght, was model Fatou Diawara. A video on Jacquemus’ TikTok profile shows how they literally modelled the dress on her. The result is a moving sculpture, with a corset that detaches from the body while keeping its shape. Swinging at every step in all its tridimensionality, it reveals the breast sides and leaves the back completely uncovered.
From the Maeght to the Oscars La Mariée Sculpture went from sacred to profane as only art can do. In France an impalpable white veil, symbol of purity, covered Fatou Diawara’s face, then turning into a train. In Hollywood, Emily Ratajkovski’s long hair were free to sneak into the corset for maximum sensuality.
